IB Learner Profile Traits
Caring

It's rare to find time in which there is truly nothing to do, but one of the things I have found that I've been drawn to is working at crossroads. While working at crossroads, I often consider where each package of donations are going, which also quite often lead to asking about the situations in many different parts of the world.
As I am quite interested in environmental issues, as well as the use of technology to solve problems, I was one of the original members of the RecycleBot project team. The RecycleBot project, is a service project which aims to use technology to create a smart recycling system to promote increased and correct recycling.
Knowledgeable

Model United Nations (MUN), is a place to hone knowledge and fast thinking. It often requires extensive knowledge on current affairs, and draws out meaningful solution to many modern problems. In MUN I found that I was able to develop my knowledge in many different fields both in preparation and during debate, often required to draw upon knowledge upon various significant issues to fully engage in fruitful and constructive debate.
Through participating in music both in school and outside of school (Jazz band, Wind band, ABRSM piano exams), I have developed my knowledge of many areas of music such as different music in relations to cultures, as well as music in relation to time period. This allowed me to hone both my skill and knowledge in a wide musical range.
Thinker

In the first term of Grade 10, I was nominated and awarded the "Thinker" award, for having been the student who most demonstrated the traits of an IB Thinker.
For my personal Project, I had decided to make a product which tackled small scale recycling of plastic. This required me to show the attributes of a thinker as I had to design and come up with the problem of plastic recycling. This also required me to use creative and critical thinking to think of and design my product to fit my needs.
Risk Taker

Two years ago, I had no idea what the award for young people program (AYP) was, yet nonetheless I signed up to do AYP with a group of students in the grade above, none of which I knew. Over the course of completing bronze and silver, I have had many opportunity to try new things, and step into many different roles.
Having not had any similar roles in any school clubs before, applying for an executive position at the Media Team was something unfamiliar and new to me. Having little knowledge of videography and some basic knowledge and experience in photography, I was excited to apply for a new position in which I would have an opportunity to learn more on this subject.
Balanced

One of the aspects of being a balanced person, is having physical balance. One of the ways I keep myself physically balanced is through sailing. I sail both for fun and competitively, bringing some fun and motivation for sailing. Some of the other ways I bring about physical balance is my participation in other activities such as track and field and award for young people (Duke of Edinburgh)
On the other hand, to keep myself emotionally balanced, I enjoy many more relaxing hobbies such as photography, and music. As I try to explore the different aspects of life, I also use it as an opportunity to improve my photography and take some interesting photos. I enjoy photography as it allows me to see things I otherwise wouldn't and it serves as a calm, relaxed activity, to keep me balanced.
